JR Lighting, Inc. is a full service company, which rents and sells lighting and grip equipment to the film and television industry. It was established in July 1991 by James “JR” Reid and Mary Skrenes and incorporated on June 18, 1993.

It began because JR had designed and built a fluorescent interior “Car Kit” that plugged into a cigarette lighter, which he rented upon occasion. JR’s true love was lighting for film. Mary wondered why he didn’t do more Gaffing. He said he needed gear. She said, so let’s buy gear. So, they bought a truckload of equipment  from his, then retired Gaffer (and mentor), Jim Blair.

The original intent was to do local commercials around Vegas. The company bought a used 5-Ton truck. JR and his Best Boy, Tom Reynolds retrofitted a lot of Jim Blair’s older style lights. Everyone continued to work their “day jobs”. All rental income was replica breitling watches spent on new equipment. Renting the first dolly from JL Fisher accelerated the growth of the company. Soon followed associations with CineMills, Mole Richardson, Kino-Flo, Chimera and American Grip. JR and Mary had to quit their day jobs.

Today, JR Lighting has grown to be the largest Production Rental Company in Nevada. It has changed and adapted to the special needs of its clients. It now includes movie quite generators, all expendables, production supplies, crew gear and a large selection of support products for Professional Photographers, with ProFoto and Speedotron Strobes, backgrounds, seamless, tripods, umbrellas, etc.

Our primary clients are ad agencies and production companies that produce local and national advertising, films, television shows and occasional music videos. Although we shoot predominantly in and around Las Vegas, Red Rock and Valley of Fire, our market area also includes Utah, Arizona and California.
